Front Covers

  1. All three magazine covers are very different, and this is because they ll have different target audiences. By doing this they are all specialized to be aimed at certain types of people. For intstance, ‘Music Week’ magazine, does not follow the usual conventions of a front cover. There isn’t a main picture and it is very text heavy. It also emulates the layout of a broadsheet newspaper, through its fully justified text and strict columns. However the title follows the normal conventions; ie, using bold colours (red, black) to make a bold statement, and they also position it in a way that can be seen in shops with the waterfall effect. However, ‘NME’ follows the modern day conventions. By this I mean through the usage of bright colours, a big central photograph, articles being advertised, and generally putting things on it to attract the public. Similarly to this’ ‘Kerrang’ also follows these conventions, they have the bright colours and big titles, but they have more articles, giving the audience more opportunity to be enticed in. the difference between the three is large. Music week is a very text heavy magazine, very factual and informative, NME is an indie magazine but because of its massive popularity they do not have to fight for the readers as much, leaving them with more opportunity to emphasize key features. However Kerrang because rock is a very closed genre, they try and pull as many readers as they can in, and do this through there many different articles and pictures.
